Who is an endocrinologist?

Endocrinologist is essentially a physician who is specially trained in treating diseases related to hormone producing endocrine glands. After the initial suspicion of an endocrine disorder, the primary care doctors or the general physicians would refer the patients to an endocrinologist for expert care. Sometimes, patients are referred to an endocrinologist from an allied specialty like neurosurgery, urology, gastroenterology, paediatrics etc. They provide care for a variety of conditions like diabetes, thyroid diseases, osteoporosis, cholesterol disorders, short stature, high blood pressure, infertility, menstrual abnormalities, pituitary diseases, obesity and glandular cancers.
